From Blueprint to Reality: Unveiling the United States Naval Academy Fleugel Alumni Center

We are thrilled to announce the opening of the new Fluegel Alumni Center (FAC) at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Coakley & Williams Construction, as the General Contractor, is proud to have successfully delivered this remarkable project alongside project partners Nowland Construction Management (Owner’s Rep). The FAC is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as a hub for alumni engagement and support at the Naval Academy.

Designed by Perkins Eastman with meticulous attention to detail and traditional blue and gold colors throughout, the FAC features modern architecture and cutting-edge technology. The 74,000 sf building includes 23,000 sf of underground parking, and 6,000 sf of deck space and 45,000 sf of interior space consisting of a lobby, waiting areas, offices, kitchens, pantries, bars, stairs, elevators, bathrooms and showers with changing rooms. The Fluegel Alumni Center also consists of a museum showcasing the rich history and traditions of the Naval Academy. The center boasts spacious event spaces, including a grand ballroom and multiple conference rooms, providing a versatile venue for various gatherings and functions. The FAC also houses a dedicated alumni lounge, where graduates can connect and network in a comfortable and inviting environment.

In a LinkedIn post by the US Naval Academy Alumni Association, CEO Jeff Webb said, “[This building] is now the nerve center of our alumni community and vehicle through which we will organize critical support for the naval academy for generations to come.”

Project Superintendent Ben Cozzi stated, “The USNAAAF project was very rewarding in that we took a once forgotten piece of property along College Creek and repurposed it into a prestigious home for the Naval Academy Alumni for years to come.”

We would like to extend our gratitude to the US Naval Academy for entrusting us with this significant project. Our team worked tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the FAC met the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. Congratulations to all project team members, including CWC’s team: Greg Harraka, Jon Fox, Bobby Stouffer, John Pouncy, Ben Cozzi, Adriana Amaya, Nate Hartley, Zach Dunn, Judy Panbach, Michael Capalbo, Ron Spriggs, and Wayne Tobiassen on their efforts. The grand opening represents a new chapter in the Naval Academy's history and a testament to the dedication and collaboration of all those involved in bringing this project to fruition.

We are confident that the Fluegel Alumni Center will serve as a beacon of pride for the Naval Academy community and a testament to the enduring legacy of its alumni. We look forward to witnessing the FAC become a symbol of the Academy's continued excellence.
