CWC made ABC’s Top Performers list for the third year in a row

Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) was recently honored by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in their annual “Top Performers List.” CWC earned the #73 ranking on the Top 100 General Contractors list and ranked #173 in the Top 200 Performers. CWC has been recognized on the Top Performers list each year since it began in 2019.

To be eligible, CWC demonstrated world-class safety performance by achieving Platinum status in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System, which makes the top-performing contractors up to 655% safer than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average, according to the ABC 2021 Safety Performance Report. The Top Performers were ranked by size based on the number of hours worked in 2019, as reported in their 2020 STEP applications. ABC members that earn the AQC credential certify their commitment to quality, safety, craft and management education, talent management, inclusion, diversity and equity and community relations.

“The common priorities in our third annual list of ABC Top Performers include culture, safety, innovation, workforce development and driving market value. Collaboration and adaptation created a safer, more productive job site and workplace for Coakley & Williams Construction and I applaud these industry leaders for setting the standard in developing people, winning work and delivering that work safely, ethically and profitably.”
— Michael Bellaman, President and Chief Executive Officer of ABC.

Setting the Foundation

As CWC celebrates its 60th anniversary, it is pertinent to recall its deep-rooted relationship with ABC; co-founder Neil Coakley helped establish the Metro Washington Chapter in 1959 and served as chapter President in 1960. Current President and co-owner Patrick Caulfield served as chapter president from 1991-1992, and current Executive Vice President Lynn Stith Bennett currently serves as board chair. CWC has won numerous awards through the chapter, most recently winning an Excellence in Construction Award for the interior renovation of the CohnReznick offices.
